You need to be careful watching the reboot versions with the originals as some of the story, and underlying cannon, has changed

These were my favorite films when I was a kid. I had the PotA toys, cereal bowl, lunch box, puzzles, etc; I watched them every time they were on TV and now I have them on disc.
The original movie series plays out pretty much as they were released. Loosely. There are some plot holes you could look at but if you don't get too deep into them, they are enjoyable enough and tell the story well enough together.

Planet of the Apes- Introduces us to the new world.
Beneath- More of the same but we get a deeper look into what might have happened to the world and why it is like it is.
Escape- Takes off where Beneath ends with Cornelius and pregnant Zira somehow managing to get off the planet and go back in time to present day Earth.
Conquest- Caesar grows up and leads a revolt against man who has enslaved the apes.
Battle- This one always threw me a little as it seemed like an afterthought but as I look back, I suppose I can see it being the beginning of the full circle. Man and ape live together fairly well overall but then it all goes bad and I suppose it is intended for us to believe it eventually leads up to the first movie.

Beyond that, the newer ones are on their own and have no connection in line with the originals...simply remakes with someone else telling their version of the story.

The original Planet of the Apes cured me of peeking at a movie's end. We went to a theatre to see it and go there before the previous showing ended. This was 1968 of course before multiplexes so they let people into the lobby. So I made the mistake of peeking in just before they showed what Heston found on the beach. It helps to watch the ones done in the 60s and 70s in order of release. But the 2 done in 2001 and 2011 are independent. I don't know about the unreleased ones.
