It's not Jumanji 'cuz the kids in that movie never stayed at a museum. Plus, their parents were killed in an accident so they wouldn't be looking for them.

It is most likely "From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler (1973) or (1995) Both based on the novel of the same name by E. L. Konigsburg.

It's about two children, a boy and girl, who run away from home and hide in the Metropolitan Museum overnight, and while there they try to solve a mystery about a statue.

bushg....the parents did go on vacation in Jumanji, so you are right about that! If my memory serves, the parents died while on a skiing vacation or something very close to it!

They never actually showed the kids' parents, but the daughter who was played by Kirsten Dunst is talking about how her parents died to the real estate agent, and then her guardian who I think is her aunt tells the agent that that's not really how they died, and that they really died while on a skiing trip or something. Just wanted to clear that up

the parents did die (sort of) when Alan (robin williams) comes out of the game by the way of the kids their parents are dead. (they died in a skiing accident. But once they finish the game and everything returns to the way it was before they started playing there is a scene when alan and the girl are grown up and married and the two children come over with their parents and they say they are going on a skiing trip soon. and Alan and Bonnie Hunt (I don't remember the Characters name) scream NO!!! because that's how they died before.

That's how it went. If that made any sense to anyone.
