1980s Movie- need help!

Hi,

I'm trying to find out the title of a movie I use to watch all the time. The movie was about a girl, who's name is Mackenzie- I think. She just moves to a new place and she has to go to a program at a place like the YMCA. She wants to be apart of a band so she changes her clothes and puts up her hair and becomes a guy to be in the band. If anyone knows the name of the movie I would greatly appreciate your help!

Was it a TV movie or something that would have been in theaters?

I'm pretty sure it was a TV movie. If you have any suggestions of where I should look or what the movie title is I would greatly appreciate it!

Well, I'm a bit aggravated it took me this long to track it down, but you are thinking of the 1989 TV movie The Challengers. The girl is named Mackie.
