1960-1970 thriller episode

This was a movie I watched in the 60's I think. It was like a Hitchcock or Twilight Zone episode but have checked all titles and found nothing. It goes like this. A man was sentenced to a prison term. He befriended a black man in the prison who buries the inmates when they die. They planned to help the inmate escape from prison by putting him into the coffin with the dead man the next time someone died, and the man who does the burying would later come and dig him up. He was told when he heard a bell toll at midnight that meant someone had died, to make his way to the coffin get in and be buried and would be dug up later. While in the coffin the guy thought he had planned a Great Escape. After waiting quite some time the man started to panic, why he had not come as fast as he thought the man would come to dig him up. Finally he lite a match to see who he was in the coffin with and it was the man who was suppose to dig him up...... WOW Please someone help me I would love to watch this again I thought the title was "The Great Escape" but have not been able to find it this way. Help.....

Hi Catporter,
I seem to have a vague memory of seeing this once, though I was not alive in the '60's. The one other thing that did come to mind aside from the Twilight Zone, was another great show that Rod Serling hosted called "Night Gallery." Though I went through all promising titles of both this and the TZ on tv.com, and can't seem to find anything. I'll let you know if I think of anything further though.
Good luck.

I think this is definitely Twilight Zone. i remember a discussion on the twilight zone message board. I think it was one of the ones that they were show in schools (for whatever reason, i don't know). I think the board I saw this on was on scifi.com.

One of my favorite Hitchcock TV episodes. It was originally on the "Alfred Hitchcock Hour" and is called The Final Escape The same story was remade in the mid 80's for the brought back "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" show. In the remade version, the prisoner is a woman.

Hello,
The story you are telling about is 'Final Escape', a short from the series The Alfred Hitchcock Hour'. This episode was made in 1964 (season 2, episode 18). If you want more information try www.imdb.com where you can find a lot of information about films and tv-series. You just enter the name of the show and go to the right season.
Good luck!

I just had to say, I remember that from when I was younger around the mid 80's. I remember it totally creeped me out!
