1995 xl1200 harley davidson sportster
I get an occasional carb hiccup or pop and when weather is colder it will sometimes stall after pop. During the warm weather it will pop or hiccup several times say during a two hour ride. IT DOES IT WHEN Starting FROM STOPPED POSITION, ALSO WHEN DOWNSHIFTING ETC. Problem is it is not consistent. What do you think I should check out ?

My 2006 Harley sportster will not start. The speedomoter light turns on and appears to run in reverse for a few seconds. No other lights turn on at all. The battery and fuse are OK. It appears that the battery arched some how because the negative post has some burning. Any suggestions?
