adding someone to mortgage/lowering rate

If you add someone to a mortgage that has good credit will this allow you to
get a better rate and lower payments or must you refinance in order to do this?

You will have to refinance in order to get a different rate or different payments. If the person you are adding has good credit then you may get a better rate.
