PC to TV after new monitor installed

Hope someone can help me out here, I have a 42" Hidef flat panel tv I have been using to watch tv-cable very spendy in our rural area-hooked up with a vga cable-no problems with my old crt, I just unhooked the monitor cable and hooked up the vga to the tv.
I recently received a new 24" Samsung monitor for my anniversary and it installed well but now the signal to my tv won't go thru-computer appears to load but doesn't come up to desktop. I get an "unuseable signal msg" from my set??
Can anyone tell me what I did wrong?

1 possible reason is that the resolution settings on your graphics card output do not currently match the resolution input capabilities of your new monitor/TV.

Check the manual for both your graphics card and the monitor/TV and try get the resolution settings the same on each device to see if that fixes the problem.
