    Monitor no signal
    Hi there,

I have a graphics card that doesn't work for my PC,as in there are no beebs, and the monitor stays blank when I turn it on with an amber light, I have a ic7-g motherboard and the graphics card ati radeon 9800 pro doesn't work for my mobo and I dunt know why(it should work, other people have told me it works and have done it), an old tnt2 works fine going into the same slot, but the radeon 9800 pro card doesn't, I have tested it on another PC and it works there, I got a new power supply(power supply works with it too on other pc) and updated my intel chipset drivers. What am I doing wrong?

p.s. it was my friend who built my computer and found this problem, and my other friend tried a geforce 6800 ultra with a new 500w power supply(both the card and power supply was from his old pc) and it still didn't work, they both know a lot about computers but don't know what is wrong

Thanks in advance for the help

From my experiences, when the lights are on and nobody is home it means one of the following:

    • The power supply has blown.
You say the PSU works fine in another PC so I doubt it is this. Make sure that the motherboard has some lights on it or that the case fans are spinning to be 100% sure.
    • The RAM could be loose
Try taking it out and reseating it. The RAM could also have developed a fault. Do you have any spare RAM to try? If you have more than one stick of RAM, try them one at a time.
    • The motherboard or the processor could have developed a fault
If it's this - pray it's the motherboard and not the processor. Those thigns are expensive! At this stage, I would take it to a repair shop. Replacing a motherbaord is a pain and it could turn out to be something else.

Basically, get your PC to somebody who knows hardware and see what they think. It could be a number of things and it would be best to get somebody who knows what they are on about to take a look.

Yeah a few of my friends checked it he said everything should be OK? (we all know computers as we all study computer science but one of my friends built mine).I don't think its any of the ram or anything like that?I thought it might be some fundamental problem?Because my motherboard works with a tnt2 going into the same slot but using the other graphics card it doesn't work, like the radeon 9800 pro and geforce 6800 ultra don't work but they work on other computers with the power supply I'm using now, when I try it I just get a black screen but I can feel the fan on the graphics card spinning though,I actually think there is a signal but just a black screen, think something wrong,Maybe if I remove my old tnt2 graphics card from the drivers list then turn off computer and put in my new card?

    Thanks for the help

I don't think removing the drivers would do a think. For one thing, the boot up doesn't touch Windows and it's drivers. Maybe your PSU doesn't supply enough power to power these new graphic cards. They take up a lot of juice and some of them even have to have power plugged directly into them.

    What PSU do you have?

Do you hear any beeps etc. on boot up? Also, does your motherboard have any diagnostic lights on/with it (these are 4 LED's usually in a square that will be on the back of the case with the plugs etc. or on an extra bracket you plug into the motherboard then attach to your case.

Hmm I don't know my psu but I don't think it's the psu as this psu is from my friends old PC and the graphics card 6800 ultra is from his old PC too and he gave it to me so it should work together(my mobo is compatible with it and it's a 500 watt).Yeah I did plug in the additional power, my friend did it as well but it still didn't work.

Yeah funny thing is I don't hear no beebs, the LED on the monitor stays amber and I get a black screen.Hmm I don't see no LED's on the motherboard except one green/red one for the power I think when I turn the PC on and off.

But knowing it works for a tnt2 going into the same slot(I tried putting the new card in and out and it don't work,tnt2 works very well), I don't know what is going on

It's worth a shot but I dount it will do anything.

Hmmmm... Normally if it's a simple case of the graphics card not being detected then you would at least here some beeps coming from your internal speaker (in most cases). If you have no graphics card in the slot at all, do you hear anything still?

This might sound like a stupid question but have you tried the TNT2 card since starting this thread? I really can't see why one graphics card would work and the other wouldn't with the info you've given us.

The only thing left I would try is starting from scratch with a bench build. Rebuild the PC from scratch outside of the case starting with the bare minimum, checking if it works then continuing from there.

Yes if the a graphics card is not in the slot properly there is a single beep, but with the radeon 9800 pro or geforce 6800 ultra in the slot there is no beebs, and it don't work

At the moment I've got the tnt2 in the computer as that's all it works with.

I've only got the nvidia geforce 6800 ultra to test it with and it don't work and read online that it is compatible and people have done it(can someone double check for me please,if its compatible with ic7-g max 2, also my friend said it is compatible too and he help me put it into my computer too but still no luck)

I've tried doing different things and switching the tnt2 with the geforce 6800 ultra about 20 times now, every time the geforce don't work and every time the tnt2 works.

Could it be a faulty motherboard(although I don't think so?)

    Thanks for the help

Check the monitor resolution, some times if your monitor showing orange light and system is running, check if you using different monitor set on different resolution .

Try increasing your wattage on your PSU. I had this same problem I had just bought all my new upgrades for my PC and a 450w PSU and my monitor and my hard drive wouldn't work. I tried my 500w PSU and it worked! So before you go out and buy new parts try that first.
