Monitor gives no signal

I can be using my computer and in the middle of something, the monitor will say "no signal" . I can turn it off and back on , it will work for 15 seconds or so, then back to the "no signal". The monitor started doing this several months ago, then stopped, but now back to the "no signal". I purchased another monitor yesterday and it works fine with the computer. I took the old monitor and hooked up to my laptop to see if it would work okay, but it does the same thing. Is the old monitor toasted or can it be fixed? It is barely a year old.

depending on how much getting connector is and getting replaced as opposed to getting a new 'used' monitor for $25-50
