Monitor switches off

I have an old computer still running on Windows 95. Everything was fine, until a couple of days ago. I swictch on the PC and just before the Windows 95 logo shows up, the monitor switches off. Can this be fixed? Could this be a virus? Really appreciate if anybody could help me with this. Thank you.

Suggest you first determine if it is a monitor problem or a computer problem by swapping either monitor or computer for a known good unit. If the monitor is completely dead, no power, lights, etc., it's a monitor problem and can be repaired although it is probably not worth doing so if CRT type. You should be able to find another CRT type monitor for nothing or close to it. The last computer equipment surplus sale I was involved with, we couldn't give the 17+ inch CRT monitors away.
