Beaming data between PDA's

My wife and I have Sony Clie PDA's. It says you can beam data between the two. The handbook says the only exception is if the application is copywright protected, indicated by a lock icon. Well, every application in the PDA has a lock icon! How can I beam my wife's calendar into mine? If they both have the same software, why can't this be done?
