Unless that photo is posted somewhere else with ID'ing info, no, there is no way to ID the person, even with advanced software.

Are you wanting to identify a private person or a public figure perhaps? Can you download the picture here?

In additional: Clarifying the statement, "Can you download the picture here?"...I meant if it is a 'public figure' ...but you answered NEXT that it is a ‘private photo’ and I agree with others, I too wouldn't want my photo or the photos of my family to suddenly show up without my knowledge firsthand, not anywhere online.

There is no way, where did your friend get the photo ? can they trace it back from where they found it.

Would I be happy if someone downloaded my photo on a public site and asked people to ID me? No.

I own the software that does this. I would have to know everything that's been asked - where did you get the photo, why do you want to know, is it a public figure - ?

And, AGAIN, software can recognize the photo IF it's available somewhere else on line. If the person's photo is NOT on line anywhere else OR if the person's appearance has changed, no, ID'ing software will not work.
