When do you actually need anti-depression pills?
I have a friend who's not been well for 8 months. She's been going to a psychologist for 3 months but while she is a lot better, she's still not OK. There are moments where she's very, very weak, and I feel like no matter what I say, she won't stop crying and thinking about things and making herself feel so low...

I'm very scared. I'm her only friend who knows what she's going through, and while I'm always there, it's just not enough. I keep telling her it's going to be OK, but sometimes I'm not even sure myself. Should I tell her that it might be wise to try the pills? How long until someone can say that 'I can't go through this without getting anti-depression pills'?

She should definitely be talking to her Dr. about starting medication, if he thinks it is appropriate.

If she is still feeling that low I would suggest medication. I tried to cope with my depression with just visits to a therapist but that wasn't enough on its own. As long as she is being honest with the psychiatrist about how she has been feeling they would recommend the best thing for her. I know sometimes people will say they are OK at the visits but don't mention the bad things they have been feeling, sometimes due to feeling like a failure or embarrassment

I wonder if she is not being fully honest with her therapist, not showing the depths of despair she is in, and then, turning to you and falling apart and getting your sympathy and support??

I think you have to insist that she not dump her negative emotions on you, but rather, call her therapist and talk to him or her. That would be the healthiest thing for her to do. Only a professional can help her, not you.

    Best wishes to you,
