Mental Heath Facilities

We are trying to get my brother in to a Mental Health Facility. Do we have to declare him "insane"? He's had a first ever mental breakdown, saying weird crazy stuff while on vacation. It just happened a few days ago.

No he doesn't have to be declared insane. Depending on what state you reside in their are different laws to protect him, as well as the public. More than likely if he is not a threat to himself or others you cannot make him get help. If he is willing to get help that is another story. He can commit himself and take advantage of what resources are available.

Ok. Can someone...all of a sudden become manic depressive/bi-polar/schizophrenic? He just snapped! Talking about terrorists, etc. This happened in Vegas (Sunday). He went off on two arabic looking guys. Very paranoid. Doctors ruled out "drugs" in his system. We thought someone slipped him a drug. He doesn't take drugs but drinks. I'm just now finding out how much he "does" drink. He couldn't board a plane. It was ugly.
