I'm afraid of going crazy

I'm 17 and I've already been dianosed bipolar, but I'm afraid that there is something else wrong with me. Only my family knows about it. Are these feelings normal? I'm starting college next fall and I'm afraid that I'll go crazy there. I can't sleep with out a really loud fan. At sleep overs I can't fal asleep at all. I went to Spain over the summer and I couldnn't fall asleep with out taking sleeping pilss. Also, this is very weird I know, but I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE TAP THEIR FINGERS AROUND ME, I HATE WIGGLING TOES, I HATE HEARING COMPUTER MOUSE CLICKING, I HATE HEARING TVs AROUND THE HOUSE, I HATE HEARING TYPING WHEN I'M TRYING TO DO SOMETHING. By "hate" I mean, I can't stop thinking about the noises. Its affecting my relationship a little, I can't sleep in bed with my boyfriend because he breaths so loudly... I have to have the fan. I know it sounds ridiculous and selfish, but I can't help it. Is there any way to fix this? I'm going to be living in a dorm with a srtanger who knows nothing about my crazy needs. WHAT DO I DO? My mom knows that i hate the clicking and the toe wiggling. Her and my brother are the only ones yhat know.

thanks

You said you have been diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. Are you under the treatment and care of a psychiatrist? You need to be, if you are not. If you are, please go back to this doctor and explain what you have stated here. There may be something else going on inside you. But you really, really, really need to go back and see your doctor. Honestly explain what is going on and your fears. Good luck to you.

If you would like to do some research on the web, a good place to start is the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) - NIMH: National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Home Page

I stopped going to therapy because I got over some severe depression that was caused by some family issues, I thought I was better.... and it was expensive... and it took alot of time out of mine an dmy mom's day. I think I should go back to therapy before I go to college because I don't know what to do when I get there. I have no idea how I'm going to fall asleep every night with out sleeping pills.

Hun, understand that Bipoar Disorder is not a curable illness. It is something that you will have to take meds for the rest of your life. Much like someone who has high blood pressure, it is not curable either and one must take meds for the rest of ones life for this.

You should indeed get back into therapy and stay on your meds no matter how good you feel. That is very important.

HI ! Is it possible that you can tone down from hate to dislike so that you can relax more. It seems like you are very extreme and you may have sensory issues. Try to say, the tv is on and I dislike it instead of I hate it ....it has to be off now etc. As for not being able to fall asleep in Spain....well thats normal considering you are in a different country....... or maybe you couldnt sleep because your bipolar. When you are bipolar if you are manic you will have trouble sleeping so you have to see if your bipolar is being managed properly. At home, you may need a fan just because its white noise type of sound and there are many people that need that to sleep. Wiggling toes and tapping sounds can probably annoy people. You can and should talk to a professional about what you can do to prepare for college . Even if you "hate" things , they dont have to run your life. I have to say , you are picking things that most people wouldnt pick....I think you are extra sensitive to noise(sensory)or you just like having things comfortable and your way. Its good to want to be comfortable when you sleep or are on the computer . A therapist may be able to teach you coping skills .Good Luck !

i think that allot of people are like this ess the fan thing. but allot of people hate all these things tell me with the tv is it the actual sound from the tv or the high pitched sound they make. Because that bothers me too. how do you react to these things? It could be some irritability. But like J-9 said if you need meds take them otherwise your life can spiral out of control as you get older

I think you're suffering with high anxiety too as I did suffer from anxiety and epression a few months agop and couldn't stand any noise around me. It would get on my nerves so much. I thought I was going crazy but I didn't. It was only anxiety and once it's gone you'll feel better but you do need to take meds for bio-polar and maybe something for anxiety like xanax.

What do you mean by hate? do you mean fear? or are you just annoyed by it?

If you are afraid, then it could be a phobic response.
