What do you think of someone who gets upset and wants to find a small place to go, (maybe hide) even though she is alone at the time.

It's almost like she wants to get away and that is the best she can find. No one else is with her in the home, but she still wants to go in the far back of the closet or some where else to think.

This isn't a regular occurrence and she doesn't always do it (according to her) but she always feels like she wants to.:confused:

It seems like whoever you are speaking of has attached the idea of security and comfort to hiding in a small place. And since she doesn't do it all the time, maybe it's at times where she feels overly stressed that's when the need to go in the closet arises. As people we all have different levels of stress that we can tolerate and different methods of coping with that stress.

Although it sounds a bit eccentric, as of now, the "closet method" doesn't seem harmful to herself or others. However if you are worried, maybe encouraging her to speak to you or a professional can allow her to link security and stress - release with confiding in a trusted individual, rather than hiding in a closet.

We swaddle newborns so they feel safe. We crate our dogs and teach them that that is their den and place of safety. People buy Snuggle Blankets for warmth and security, and wrap up in them to watch TV. Linus has his security blanket. Whenever I get sick, I wish I had a cave to go into and be able to roll a rock in front of the opening, so no one comes in to bother me. I'm guessing the closet is all of that to that person you know, JD.
