Does jogging/helps relieve depression?

I heard that physical exercise is the best way to relieve depression. i've been going thru a bit of down time since my breakup and even though i am healing i still feel terrible, just want to know whats the best exercise that would help,or if anyone have other healthy minded activity that they do to help themselves and look great, not that i have gained weight,i just want to feel better about myself . Thanks everyone

Exercise raises you natural endorphin levels and can really help you feel better. I walk, or if it's raining I do drumming. Hitting a drum has been shown to alleviate depression.

my experience is balance fights off depression... and ive had one deep depression and a couple of blips.

exercise can help with depression. it is something you do for you alone, it increases your self awareness, increases your self image, increases your endorphins (as expertly mentioned), and is a way to center yourself.

after one big love broke my heart by cheating on me and then asking me to come over to finish the "job" he couldnt (found out the next morning) i was a manic idiot for almost a year.

dont kick yourself too much. and the fact you posted this shows how strong you are... and even a strong person is allowed to feel like crap. you are strong enough to know you can fight your way out of this, or at least know you dont have to lay down and settle for it. that is admirable.

in my life there have been "droughts" and "monsoons"... stretches where nobody would give me a moments glance, and then periods when there were suddenly three people interested in me.

hang in there.

i dont promise a lot of things when it comes to a persons life... but i do believe you are just going through a rough spell and in time you will feel better and you will know other loves. i really believe that.

Two recent studies indicated that exercise is the most effective action to take to help medium to light depression.....*more effective* than medication. Deep depression was helped by medication as well as exercise.
