I have niece who is 4 years old, and still doesn´t talk. She had also problems with movement when she was younger. She still has problems with motoric functions and soft movements. Also sometimes doesn´t swalow her slobber. But she hears well, understands what is said to her and can do what is wanted from her. Also is very emotional. Could you please help me to find any aid?Have you ever met with something like this?We visited many doctors but nobody can tell us what is really wrong with her or how to treat her.thanks a lot.sonia

Does she make any sounds or attempts at speaking? Is there any history of any sort of trauma... emotional or physical from when she was younger? Any illnesses when younger? Has she had any sort of testing performed and, if so, what types? Do you know if she met the usual milestones in development as an infant... crawling, sitting up, walking, etc. within the normal time frames... or has her development always been delayed?

Well.. I don't know about any trauma, but some doctors spoke about it could happened by her birth. Yes she makes some sounds and also says words like "mama, papa.." There was no illness that could influence her condition. She has had many kind of tests- test of her brain, metabolic functions and others and nothing important wasn´t found out. And she met usual milestones just start walking a little bit later and she skipped the phase of crawling. It tooks longer to teach her walk in a right way, she used to fall down without bending her knees.now her development is becoming more and more delayed.thank a lot for interest:)

In the US you can request your child be assessed by the local public elementary school. You might inquire if your local school system does something similar.

My son has a genetic disorder which has left him developmentally delayed. It was discovered after a sonogram suggested he might have Down Syndrome. The amnio discovered it wasn't that, but something else. If the had not run the amnio, which is not standard, then his disorder may have never been diagnosed.
