Right knee joint pain

In the past one week I am having sudden pinning pain in my right knee joint that lasts only for few seconds and then goes off. It happened while I was sitting idle in a bus or just on a sofa in my house.

Could this be due to accidental knocking of the knee on some blunt object like table drawer, etc? Or any other causes like over weight?

Please answer me as to what should I do

Thanks

What do you mean by a pinning pain? Does the knee freeze up?

Is there a history of arthritis in your family? Are you overweight?

No freezing sense. Just a sharp acute pain for a few seconds that even caused my leg to jerk.

My mother suffered pain in knee joints like arthritis. Mine is now not a constant pain but only occasional in the past one week (may be I got it four times by now)

Sad to say that knee pain and arthritis could be genetic. My Mom gave it to me from her mom and now my kids have it.Seriously.
I would visit an orthopedic doctor and perhaps you can prevent it from becoming worse.
