    Sales Tax on Capital Improvements in New York.
    I'm about to finish a renovation on a small barn on my property. In all, I will have spent almost $20,000.00 My contractor has charged sales tax on the entire amount. I have not paid it yet. What am I supposed to pay sales tax on? Materials only?

    Is there sales tax on labor? I live in New York. Thank you.

    Since I do not practice in New York, I am not familiar with provisions of the NY sales tax.

    However, sales tax on labor down NOT sound right.

    A call to the NY State Department of Taxation will get you the correct answers. You can also send an e-mail.
