The court clerk in the state that the adoption was filed or in the state that the mother & child live in?

Oh, I realize that you mean we can talk to the clerk about getting a copy of the ruling.

What about visitation? Do we file in her lawyer's state or the state where she and the child lives? We do not have her address and I am not entirely sure of what city they live in. I can get in touch with her on the computer but I am sure she will not give me any information on their location.

If the original custody order was issued where your husband lives now, then you file there. If both parents have moved, then the courts where the child resides have jurisdiction.

Any idea how I could find out where that is? She says that she has the same lawyer which is in a different state than either of us live. Is there some kind of legal action we can take to find their location?

Any of the papers that we have only has her lawyer's address. I will call and see if we can get a copy of the adoption ruling and maybe I can get some information then.

I called the county in which the adoption proceedings were. They told me that visitation had to be handled through the county in which the child lived. I called the county in which I think they live & they told me that we needed to hire an attorney. She said that we could file for visitation with out a lawyer if we knew how but that they weren't lawyers so they couldn't help. Any one have any ideas on how we could do this? Hiring a lawyer in another state just seems a bit much to do unless we necessarily have to.

You can hire an Attorney "here" and that Attorney will work with an Attorney "there." Happens all the time.
Or you can attempt to do it yourself - in that instant I see you driving back and forth for appearances, to file documents, etc.
I think you should consult with an Attorney in your area and ask what he/she suggests.

So would we only have to pay for one lawyer's fees? I will call around and see. We really wanted to handle this with out an attorney. But you are right, making the trips & paying the filing fees will probably equal around the attorney retainer.
