    Metoprolol Tartrate is immediate-release and Succinate is extended-release. Same ingredients, different methods of deployment.

    If switching from Tartrate to Succinate, you should know not to break up the Succinate pill because it is extended release, and the total dosage of Tartrate is usually the same when taking Succinate.
