Side effects of E-Mycin?

My dad had developed a small lump on his scalp. It was oily and very painful. He had to get all his hair removed because of the lump. Three days back he had a small surgery to have the lump removed and is now taking a medicine called e-mycin. The doctor did tell us that the medicine will have some side effects. But dad has become very weak these days and has high fever. He has also developed purple rashes on his scalp. I searched for the side effects of e-mycin but these side effects are not the same as the ones from which dad is suffering. I am getting scared. What is this happening to dad? Could it be possible that he is allergic to this medicine? I am trying to phone the doctor since yesterday but he is out of town. Please tell me what should I do in such a situation?

Get your father to the emergency room. Erythromycin (e-mycin) is an antibiotic, it should rid the body of a fever, not give him one. There is something else going on it is not the medicine.

What you describe could possibly be one of the more serious side effects of erythromycin but it's hard to say without more details. Get him to his doctor asap.
