how long after having a total hysterectomy does one need to be on hormone replacement therapy?

Many women do not take HRT, especially if young when the surgery is done, and for other reasons (I for one cannot have HRT due to the type of breast cancer I had), for other women it is recommended for a lifetime. Reason being is that once the ovaries and uterus are gone you are not producting certain hormones that aid in reducing the risk of osteoporosis. HRT therefore, help slow down the process.
