My question is can the pill form of prednisone be cut in half if a patient is taking a regime of 6 tablets for 2 days, then 4 tablets for 2 days, then 2 tabs for 2 days?

You should consult with your doctor before decreasing any medication. If you are taking prednisone for a skin condition and are experiencing side effects, then you must call your doctor.

Why would you want to cut it in half for?

The regime that you described is completely fine. No need for cutting pills in half.

Like another poster mentioned. If your having a reaction and trying to lower medication it is best to speak to your doctor. Other wise continue the regime the way it is prescribed.

Evidence, latest shows that you do not truly need weaning off this medication. Of course, there will be always different opinions and suggestions.

I have used this medication several times growing up and as an adult.

I was up to 8 pills in a day for several days then taken off slowly.

If you are having a hard time swallowing the pills, then yes you can cut them in half.

But for any other reason as mentioned above, you must contact your doctor.

I am kind of surprised because the pills I had were very small so there should be no problem with swallowing.

If there is no problem swallowing then NO do not cut them in half. Are you asking if you can cut the dosage in half?

If that is the case, I have nothing else to add than what has already been said above.

P.S. I have only had liquid prednisone for my little one, so I did not know that the pills were so small.
