Best antibiotics to treat internal staph infection
I contracted a staph infection during a discetomy (triming of lumbar disc) in January. My doctor has prescribed two different oral medications (doxycycline and dicloxacillin) to treat the infection, but I'm not convinced that it's gone. I was on an IV antibiotic for about 6 weeks, but since I've been off that I just feel like I've taken a step backward. I just recently learned that I should not take them together as they tend to counteract each other. Unfortunately, my doctor failed to mention this, and I'm starting to lose faith in him. I have also read that staph is resistant to penacillin, but I know that the dicloxacillin is a form of it. I need to know if there are other oral medications that are recommended in fighting this infection.

Generally, broad spectrum antibiotics such as amoxicillin, Dispermox, Trimox, erythromycin, Eryc, Ery-Tab, Pce, Pediazole, Ilosone, etc should all work relatively efficiently. Granted, you may have an stronger form of the infection and thus may require more treatment.

If you're losing faith in your doctor, I suggest getting a second opinion.
