pain in foot

For the last 3 months or so i have been experiencing this horrific pain on the side of my foot. The pain is similar to either an electric shock or really intense burning sensation. It is completely random. There is no correlation of pain with activity or rest. The pain episodes last for only a few seconds but are very severe and stop me in my tracks. My doctor says it's not related to a disc problem because the pain does not shoot down the leg. He thinks it may be a hairline fracture or my shoes are too tight. My chiropracor ,of course ,says otherwise. I plan to get an xray of foot soon but in the meantime i was wondering if anyone has an idea of what else it may be?..or any suggestions.

I don't know if it could possibly be spurs but I think they tend to be on the bottom of the heel.
I would get the xray done with your chiropractor or go to see a podiatrist.
