    Numbness in hand
My wife's wrists hurt, almost like a soreness. Her doctor had told her that it is to do with the tendons and she needs to see a physical therapist. I tend to think she should go see an orthopedic doctor. Anyway, her one hand goes numb anytime she hits a certain spot in her wrist. It doesn't happen all the time. It seems to go in spurts. Does anyone have any idea what this might be or called. Iwanted to researchon the internet but not sure where to start. Any ideas?

    Wrist
    Hi,
    Could be carpal tunnel disease.
I am not sure of the spelling, but you could try some research on those two words.
I would definitely see a Professional in this area, not just a family MD. Maybe a Neurologist? It might not be tendons, but nerves. There are certain types of tests; scans; that can be done.
I do wish you the best.

I agree with fredg. It could very well be carpol tunnel syndrom (sp). I am no doctor, but have her ask her doctor about neuropathy. Generally this is caused from having diabete's, extensive surgery, etc.. But it should be checked into.

    Best of Luck!

Does the entire hand go numb, or only certain fingers? Does she wake up in the middle of the night with numbness?

Carpal tunnel syndrome is the compression of the median nerve at the wrist. It causes numbess on the palm side of the thumb, index, middle, and usually half of the ring finger. Tapping on the wrist just below the palm will irritate the nerve, sending "zingers" or numbess into the above mentioned fingers. Her family doctor can diagnose this and get her started with some conservative treatments.
