    Swollen and bruised rib
Im 16 years old girl and I have just come back from holiday yesterday. On the holiday I was fine it wasn't until the Saturday I think I dne it, I went on a bunchy jump in the hotel, where the tie holding me on there was right under my chest, it didn't really hurt me, I just left in and enjoyed the day. But on the Monday morning then I started noticing my back and side hurting me only slightly, it didn't feel that bad until Tuesday when I went home, when I was on the plane it started hurting, now I have got home I have noticed swelling on one side and briusing around the back. Today, Wednesday its a lot better still swollen not as much but a bit tight I think its from the swelling. The pain has eased from taking improfen, but its still tight. My nan thinks it might be a strained muscle because the pain is simpleir to the pain I get under my ribs from over exercise doing sit-ups. I'm a very panicky person, speacilly latley as I have just done exams, I have been worrying a lot since I got back and have been scared its something really serious, I eat healthly and I don't smoke. Could it be a muscle strain or a broken rib or something worse? I scared to go to the doctors of fear its a lot worse then it is. I need some advice.

It very well could be a pulled or strained muscle, but you really should go to the doctor and get an X-ray to rule out a broken or fractured rib.

It is probably nothing worse than a fractured rib or a strained muscle. Does it hurt when your breath in, twist to the side, or press on the area? If so, it is probably a fractured rib. With a broken rib, the pain tends to be sharp; if the ribcage merely aches, the bones may just be bruised. You should see your health care provider as soon as you can; don't be afraid... I'm sure there is nothing seriously wrong with you!
