Stomach pain and water

Every time I drink plain water of any temperature, I get awful stomach pain that can last for up to 15 minutes. No nausea, just pain. This happens whether it is tap water, distilled water, purified water, or spring water. I haven't found a water that does not cause the pain. What could be causing this? I can drink water-based drinks (lemon-aid, kool-aid, tea, etc) without a problem. Does anyone else have this problem?

I forgot to mention that I had gastric-bypass surgery about 3 years ago. I don't know if that makes a difference.

Are you gulping the water or sipping it?

I just drink it down at an average rate, I guess. I have tried sipping with no improvement in the outcome. It just prolongs the pain. Could it have something to do with the pH of the water and my surgery?

I am sorry, I missed that gastric bypass surgery part.

It could very well have to do with the surgery, since you should only be able to eat/drink very little at a time.

Are you drinking with meals? It was my understanding that drinking with meals is prohibited after gastric bypass because the water fills the stomach and there is no room for food.

It could be maybe that what you are feeling is your stomach stretching back out?

Forgive me, but I am just guessing here.

I don't drink that much at a time. I measure my swallows and keep them at around 10 (about 1/2 cup for me) so that I don't over fill. I do not drink with meals. I understand what you mean about stretching my stomach, I have done that before, but this is not the case with the water. This happens whether I have eaten recently or not. I know it's very strange.
