No one seems to believe this symptom. When I move my right ankle or rub my right calf in a certain location, I hear a sound inside my right ear. It sounds sort of like winding a watch. I have had sounds in tha ear for years (birds, insects etc.), but this is new and on top of that.
It started about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I am also having hip and sometimes leg pain (Same leg). I went for my first medicare exam. The Doctor would not talk about the issues I had been saving until I started Medicare, since this was the preventative health exam, and said he would see me in 6 weeks. I plan to change doctors and get an eariler appointment. I asked him about this, as he was walking out the door, and he said that was impossible unless I was a robot. Has anybody heard of anything like this?

Hey Mag - Did you ever have an injury to this ear? B/c sometimes strange sounds can occur in time to an ear that has had a ruptured eardrum. Many medications can cause a "ringing in the ear":Aspirin toxicity, antidepressants, antibiotics,etc.
In the absence of other symptoms like difficulty hearing, pain, or other symptoms found in a serious inner ear condition (vertigo,nausea, roaring tinnitus) I'd say to just have your ears checked. By a specialist if needed.

I have to agree with Pumpkin here, think long and hard about past injuries.

Could also be a possible condition caused by scar tissue built up in the ear due to recurrent infections as a child.

Thanks for the reply, but it does not address my wierd symptom. I have had noise in my ears for years. That, and my floaters make me self intertaining.
What is strange, is that I hear a noise in response to turning my ankle or rubbing my calf. This started happening about 3 weeks ago. This sound is over the sound of my tinnitus. The sound does not travel in the air from my ankle or calf, but is in my ear. Every one thinks I am crazy, but this is real.
This all happens on the right side. Right leg, right ear.

This is just a long shot, but have you been checked by a cardiologist to see if you have any right sided blockages that could be causing this?

Thank's. I do plan to ask my new doctor, when I see him.That is, when I choose a new doctor and make an appointment. The idea of blockage has
worried me. I'm going to bed now. have dogs to walk in the morning.

Mag -It's true. Your symptoms do sound vascular in nature. Pain in the lower extremity (aching, cramping) with exercise & ending with rest is the hallmark symptom of peripheral arterial occlusive disease. Later stages have this pain even at rest. The extremity may be cool due to decreased blood supply.
The pain is insidious in onset & is produced by muscle hypoxia & an accumulation of metabolites.
The sounds you hear make sense as this may be a bruit(pronounced brewee) A bruit is the sound produced by turbulent blood flow through an irregular, stenotic(narrowed/partially blocked) lumen OR through a dilated(aneurysm) segment of the vessel.
There are other common sites for possible athersclerotic obstruction.This can be even occur in the cerebral circulation.
That is why it is imperative to see a cardiologist/vascular MD asap.
There are doppler ultrasound flow studies that maybe ordered& other tests (depending on the suspected area of occlusion(s)
If you say this problem(hearing noises) has only occurred intermittently in the last 3 months, you may have caught any problem in its earlier stages.
Sometimes medication is prescribed, sometimes percutaneous angioplasty, etc, & sometimes(depending on severity) surgery with grafts may be needed.

It is a serious matter. When you say "the floaters" well, are you referring to some specs in your vision from cataracts? B/c floaters is a word to describe a detached retina! This is your health. Make sure you approach your appt. seriously. This way the MD can help you better.

Also Mag, when you do go to the doctor make sure you do not leave unless you understand what is happening. Many doctors today don't take the time to listen to their patient's complete complaints.

Remember, this will be a new doc to you. He does not know your body as you do.

Make a list of each of your complaints before you go so as not to forget anything while you are there. Remember, he is your employee in essence, he is there to serve you as you are paying him to get the job done. If you have to take a copy of this thread with all of your answers to him and have him look it over.

Pumpkin is so right when she says "this is your health." It is and it is up to you to get the answers you deserve. So don't leave the office until he answers ALL your questions in a way that you understand.

Thank's everybody. I plan to take a print out of this page to the doctor. I've
had the floaters for years (looks like tangled strings of cells), and they have been seen by an ophthalmologist, She said " Wow, you do have a lot of floaters", but not in a few years. Did notice a new one ( different from the
old ones), so I do plan to have my eyes checked soon.
