Vomting, sometimse food does not pass to stomik

I would like to take your consultant about disease with my daughter . She is suffering from vomiting and sometimes she get chokes in her lower esophagus .

It happens from time to time when she eats or drinks that the food chokes and vomit .

DIAGNOSIS

We took her to Hospital . Doctors did the following tests for her :

1- Barium Swallow Test
2- Chest X-ray
3- Endoscopy
4- Manometry

After they did all these tests , they told us she is suffering from disease called ACHALASIA and this disease rarely happens .

We would like from you to tell and advise us the best cure for her ( Method , Operation … etc) . Also, if this disease stays with her longer time with out treatment , does it affect any parts of her body ?

She is 16 years and she has been suffered from this disease since 8 months .

Thank you for your assistance

Hi, Our 8 year son was also recently diagnosed with Achalasia and has been dealing with it for about 8 months, also. He is scheduled to have surgery, A Heller Myotomy and a Fundoplication in two weeks.

There is much for you to learn about this disease. You need to be very careful in who you choose to treat your daughter, because it is so rare, very few surgeons have done the Heller Myotomy. Where do you live? There are several surgeons around the country that are experienced in Achalasia.

We have found a yahoo group that you can join. All of the members either have Achalasia or their children have it. They have been a wonderful resource for us in helping us understand this disease and the best way to help our son. I encourage you to go there and sign up to join the group and post your question there. You will find lots of help. I am sorry your daughter is going through this, we will pray for her and your family. Here is the group address:

achalasia : A Transglobal Health Support Group

Sincerely, Rebecca
