Hey everyone, I'm hoping to get some insight and tips on my community service. I'm a nursing student right now, and I just started a home health care provider position for volunteering. The person I am working with is an Alzheimers patient, and I was wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions on what to say and how to talk with a person with Alzheimers. I'm not sure how far into his illness he is, I do know that he needs help with ADL's (activities of daily livings). I worked at a nursing home with patients like this a few years back, however just being one-on-one with a person for an extended period of time, I want to be able to communicate as much as possible with this person. His wife just had surgery, and will need help whenever she goes to see her grandchildren or just when she just feels like she isn't feeling up to helping him alone.
Any 'conversation-starters' (although I'm aware that conversation may be a difficult thing to do with this kind of person, unfortunatly) that I could use, or types of things to say? I have never met him before. Thank you!!!
