Choux - I don't know of all the sym. for sleep apnea,But I do have it and none of the things she said does not fit in, If I remember right there is what is called (SLEEP SICKNESS)::!! I seen guys in flight school in the usaf, that could be standing in formation and FALL to sleep, They called it sleep sickness. The ones that it happened to were gone within two days. Ive gone threw the testing for this, the 1st, part then had to go threw the @nd part. Sleep apnia is really where you just cant get to sleep, Well I hope everything turns out alright for her. Good day AND GOD BLESS.::: F.B.E.

Have you been tested for sleep apnea? Do you know for sure that's what it is? Do you know you stop breathing?

Do you ever feel when you wake up that you sort of gasp for breath? And do you feel weak when you wake up, or with a headache or something? Do you sometimes snore, or feel yourself breathing very shallow or very slowly?
I'm just asking because these are some things i feel, and i just would like to find out what it is.

yes those are the exact symptoms of sleep apnea and yes i do have them all
i do wake up gasping for air, i snore, and i actually have dreams of being suffocated or that i am drowning because i am not breathing at that time and i have all of these things every night i also wake up with migrains (i have been diagnosed with those as well) so they never go away now

Depending on where you live, there may be a teaching hospital in the area that would accept you as a patient at a low or no charge. Also, there are sleep studies conducted, so you might qualify. The fact that you are so young with this disease makes me think there are definite ways for you to get free help. Call your county health department or even your public library's reference department to get more information for diagnosing and treating this.

Apnea is diagnosed by a sleep study conducted at a local medical facility via an overnight, monitored stay. I have had about seven sleep studies, so I am an expert.

Get a referral from your family physician to a doctor who does sleep studies. You have to know what you are dealing with.

Best wishes and happy sleeping in 2008,
