Foot pain on side of foot

Asked Feb 14, 2006, 11:07 AM — 33 Answers
Was hoping someone could help. I have pain on the outside of my right foot. It is 1/2 way down the foot, it is tender to the touch and makes walking difficult.. Any ideas what it is? Thanks..

Summary This problem seems to be a common one as many users have commented that they have similar issues with their feet. Some of the suggestions have been Tendinitis, problems with the Cuboid Bone, Plantar Fasciitis, and plain old tired muscles. Aside from stretching, applying normal care to a strained muscle, and giving it time to get better - the best bet is to go see a Podiatrist for a proper examination.

Other users have also reported success at using Foot Orthotics and utilizing a massage therapy to cure their foot pain. (Youtube Video of how to perform the massage is at post #33).

I was thinking of doing the same thing when I saw your comment a while back but thought I'd wait to see if it was a temporary relief as I sometimes seem to get months of relief before the pain rears its ugly head again.

I don't let it keep me down whether I use the bands or not. I too think that it is a bone out of place and remembered back that I had broken my little toe pretty bad and it was after the mending of the toe that the pain in the left-side of same foot occurred. Sometimes, it only last for minutes but often the pain will cease with long-distance walking and sometimes not. I switch off on different types of shoes and have also noticed that it suddenly got better when walking barefoot indoors and not relying on comfortable slippers. Such is life, eh?
I further add that in ref. To change off of walking shoes, etc., when pain is real bad I'll slip into a pair of clogs made by Eastland. The sole is made of firmer materials b/still flexible and the heel is also higher~ gives much relief.

I'm still having some pain when I walk on eneven ground. The specialist has told me that the bone structure looks good but that he thinks it's tendonitis. I have some exercises to do to strengthen the smaller muscles in my foot. It has come a long way.
