The proper terminology for that would be a "colonoscopy." Someone in my family used to do colonoscopies all the time at the place she used to work.
At the office she was at, they usually put you to sleep for the most part while they are performing it, so you generally do not feel anything. You might be a little "sore" afterwords, but from what I understand, it is nothing too severe.
