Crohn's disease

I was recently diagnosed with a Rota Virus and given the appropriate drugs and diet advice. I finish my course of drugs today and while on them have had no diarrhea or other symtoms. However, in the last 3 days I have had a very painful elbow, with very limited movement. And now that this has almost dissapeared I have woken today with a very sore knee and stiff upper spine. I cannot think that of causes apart form lack of exercise due to illness. There has been no blood in my stool except for a tiny bit that I believe to be a result of the diarrhea when it was at its worst. For the past 12 months I have had mild diarrhea but never pain and it did not interuppt my life at all.
I am a 25 year old woman, with a very good diet and no family history. Is it likely that I have Crohn's? The unexplianable joint pain is my main concern, especially when considered with confused my other symptoms.

You do understand that Chron's is basically an intestinal disease correct? We are just going to start there, okay.

Yes, I have read up on it. I guess what I really want to know is, am I being paranoid? Or should I be concernd?

The reason I wonder is because joint pain and stiffness are listed as symptoms of Crohn's in all of the articles that I have read.

My son has crohn's disease he was diagnosed when he was 9, he is now 17. This was diagnosed by a colonoscopy. His symptoms were abdominal pain, painful bowel movements, foul smelling gas and bowel movements, fingers were clubbed ( they were rounded out more than normal ) blood work will show low Iron, and other things. Diarhea is also present, and hi sedrate, which shows CBC ( complete blood count ) this is inflammation which is usually very hi in crohn's patients. Have blood work done, it will or should tell you something, then if you need the scope, have it done. The reason you lose weight with crohn's is because your food travels through and out of your system so fast your body doesn't have time to abosorb the nutrients, so your body suffers from malnutrition. Good Luck, I Hope your test is negative for crohn's

Thank you Maebarr- it is good to hear from someone with firsthand experience of the disease. I will wait to I have finished the medication the doctor gave me for the supposed virus (I hope that he was right!!) and see how I am then. if no improvment I will have a blood test.
Thanks again for the info.

I have Crohn's disease, and I guess you can never really be sure unless you look inside your body for actual ulcers. Diarhhea could be from plenty of things, but if you're concerned about having Chron's, go to a gasteronologist, have them check you out, and see what they think. It's better safe than sorry. Chron's disease is extremely nasty and can get worse fast if not treated, and I thought I was going to die right before I got diagnosed. I am 15 now, and in much healthier condition than I was a year ago, so again, just give the gasteronologist a shot. It can't hurt!
