When was the last time you had a decent bowel movement? And what kind of meds are you on? Constipation over a long period of time could be a really serious problem and if you have let it go for more then two weeks, i would get an appt. with a specialist (proctologist) through you doctor.

Yes, it is important that you see a doctor. However, some foods that are essential in helping move the bowels are foods high in fiber and fruits.

Consitpation for a long time? Poor you. I have had constipation issues on and off for all of my life and I sympathise.

Firstly I would suggest you drink plenty of water and try eating dried fruits such as prunes and apricots. Apples with the peel on also work well or clementines and oranges (by the dozen!- works for me). These also help your bowel move along and make the process softer too. There are also many fibre products you can get from the pharmacy/doctor.

If you do not know why the constipation has occurred, then I would advise you to go and talk to your doctor about this to make sure there's nothing underlying wrong.

J_9 agrees: Yummie, I LOVE dried apricots!!! I started eating them when I got constipated after the birth of my first child. Great healthy way to get rid of the nasty little problem.
