factoring equations

1.solve the following equations.
x+3 x
a) (2 ) (4 )=16
b) log(x+17)-log(x-1) + log(x)=1

2. simultaneous equations.
a) 2x-y=5,and 2x+y=3.
b) x+2y=4,and x-y=1

3a. Convert each of the following numbers into base-2.
a) 11
10

b) 20

3b. Convert each of the following numbers into base-8.

a) 46
10

b) 100
10

4. Area of rectangle is 16 cm .The length and width of the rectangle are (L+5) and (L-1) respectively,where L is a positive integer in cm.Find the value of L.
