galactus Mathematics Expert Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Chaneysville, Pa. Posts: 1,818	Since it's an abs. value, you have two equations to solve: $3x+1+(x-2)=4$ and $-(3x+1)+(x-2)=4$ Solve for x in both.
