Suppose you have two nubmer and the second number is 2 less than 3 times the first. If the sum of the two numbers is 34 what are the numbers

Put this information into an equation.

x is first #
y is second #

x +y=34

x+(3x-2)=34

4x-2=34

Now hopefully you can finish this, and if you can't you're screwed, because I'm not going to do all the work for you.
