    Finding the effect of the increased concentration of ions on the equilibrium
    Suppose that some solid sodium acetate, CH3COONa (s), were added to a saturated solution of silver acetate which is in equilibrium with some CH3COOAg(s). After the sodium acetate has dissolved, what will be the effect of the increased concentration of the acetate ion on the equilibrium?

    CH3COOAg(s) = Ag+ (aq) + CH3COO-(aq) (= same as double arrow)

    According to the Chatelier's principle, the system will try to oppose the change. This is done by removing the acetate ions, through the conversion of acetate ions to silver acetate. So, equilibrium shifts to the left. (or more solid silver acetate is formed)
