Empirical formula

A 0.750 g sample of tin isoxidized with nitric acid to form tin oxide. Calculate the empirical formula of tin oxide if the original tin sample gained 0.201 g of oxygen.

Find the number of moles of tin.



Find the number of moles of oxygen.

Then, find the simplest ratio. For example, if you have 0.0052463 and 0.01106, the ratio is roughly 1:2, obtained by dividing both numbers by the smaller of the two.
