Hi,

I am not sure what a J1 visa is.... so I can only share my own experience with you.

I married my husband who has become an American in order to marry me.
After we married I applied for my Greencard and was very lucky in the sense that within 6 months I received my work permit and Green card.
It may seem like a life time but in terms of Immigration it is not...
With my Greencard I can -if I would like to- apply for US Citizenship after 5 years.

By the time your Visa expires you are already married and your paperwork handed over to the Immigration Services.

Maybe your Immigration Lawyer could help you with a written statement so you can still travel in and out.. ? A greencard takes -as far as I know- much longer.

I had an excellent Immigration Lawyer, so if you need someone let me know.
He lives in LA though.

Good luck !!
