Typing on a Laptop

There are several letters on my laptop that have numbers associated with them i.e I(5),O(6), etc. When trying to type letters, the number appears. How do I set the letter keys to type letters, only? Thanks for any assistance

i have a lap top with that. you have to turn the num lock off. mine has a butten with Fn on it. you hit that and num lock butten at the same time
