smeary screen

I have a compaq presario laptop. When it is on, the desktop icons become smeary and I can't do anything on it. But when the screen saver is on, you don't see the smear. What could be the problem?
Jake.

The setting for your color quality is off. You will have to access this and change it to "highest" setting. This will fix your problem.
