Laptop Monitor not working

I have been having some troubles with my laptop. A few months ago the monitor went out and since i need it to do school work on i have it hooked up to a computer monitor. I assumed the monitor light just went out but when my laptop is starting up the screen works fine and comes in as it normally would. It isn't until windows starts that the laptop screen stops working. Can anybody help me out on this?

"A few months ago the monitor went out" is this the same monitor as the "computer monitor" ?

Disconnect the monitor. Put the laptop in full power off state, by uplugging the ac adapter and removing the battery for a few seconds. Start up the laptop. Does the screen work now?

Get into the Windows boot menu by, press "F8" key before the Windows loading screen comes up. The best way to do it is, right after you turn on the laptop, start pressing "F8" repeatedly as fast as possible. This will bring up a menu.

Try booting in safe mode first, then change the resolution to less than the laptop's max. resolution, like a 800x600 and reboot. If that doesn't work, do the "F8" again and select the "boot with VGA" option.
