My Packard Bell laptop overheats really easily.
It used to work fine I could even use it on my lap. But now, after installing an online game (though it might have begun before that), every time I try to play or even just when surfing the internet, it will just turn off. Now, in order for it to work for long periods I have to have it on a metal chair with holes on the bottom to keep the air circulating underneith, or have it propped up on a desk for the same effect. I have been told that the fan is broken, but is there an alternitive solution that does not involve purchasing a new fan?:confused:

Sounds like you need to get some tinned (compressed) air and blow all the dust out of it.
My wife's laptop has a similar problem, but are a quick blow out works fine.

If then fan has broken then you are looking at some large $$ as it's not a simple DIY job.

Last time I pulled mine apart, I removed an amazing amount of accumulated dust in cooling fan fins. After that, I thought it would be great if they had removable/replaceable filters. For $ome reason Manufacturers don't want to do that?
