HP Laptop. Can Hear via Headphones, NOT on speaker

I've seen another topic on this issue, with many people having the same issue. Being told to make sure there is nothing jammed up in their headset plug. This is not the case.

I just installed XP pro and got all the drivers installed (gosh, there were a lot). I have the ADI SoundMax HD. I can hear sound in the headphones, but not from the laptop speakers. When I press the MUTE button on the laptop, I can hear a slight 'pop' from the speakers, but no sound is coming out, only from the headphones. and they sound great. has anyone resolved this issue? I've been searching =P

I spent all day installing XP and the drivers and all my security, don't want to do it all over again, lol.
