Computer will not boot up and keeps restarting itself

Hello all. I'm new here and have encountered a really unfortunately problem with my hp laptop. this morning i was running a dj program and just letting it play music. i've done it countless times in thepast and has given me no problems, until today that is. it crashed. i easily noticed it because the music was looping itself every second. keep in mind i was not in front of my laptop when this happened.

i tried alt+ctrl+del to end the process, but even that wouldn't work. i had to reset the hard way and held the power button until it turned off. i waited a few seconds and powered back on, only this time instead of running normally or perhaps running scandisk due to the hard reset. it gave me 5 choices in order to boot up my comp.

safe mode
safe mode with networking
safe mode with command prompt

last known configuration...

and

boot up the normal way.

i have tried every option and it resets right after it shows the windows and a FLASH OF THE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH. it flashes so fast i am incapable to to read what the BSOD even says. I have an XP windows boot up cd. i have inserted it, nothing works.

FYI i'm on an HP Pavillion dv5000 notebook
AMD Turion 64 Processor
512 mb of memory.

i'd really hate to reformat my computer. i have really important files that i must retrieve. any sign of help would be highly appreciated. thank you very much!

I've a DV5000 here, which is doing exactly the same thing. I've tried booting to an XP install CD, but this hangs before I get to the repair menu. I've tried multiple XP CD's and swapped out the CD drive, but it still hangs at the same point every time. I've also had the hard disk out and connected via IDE to a desktop, but I can find nothing wrong with the drive(no viruses, no bad sectors, nothing strange). As a last resort I put a new Tosh 80GB in the DV5000, but I still can't get XP to boot from any of three working CD drives to install. It's one of the strangest faults I've ever seen, but I can now only presume it's a hardware fault on the DV5000.

We bought our college freshman a dv5000 last summer with 2GB of RAM. While doing Windows upgrades and installing Office 2003 I was having installs hang, have to reboot, and the boot process was taking 6-10 minutes (I started clocking it). Web search showed others with same problem, one person recommended "Destructive Restore." It worked much better. Our son took it to school and mid-term it died. It got through bios setup, hit windows and would restart itself. Hard test showed hard drive failure. I bought a new hard drive. Worked great for 2-3 weeks with new hard drive and did it again. I now have a $1,500 paper weight.

I sent it back to HP under warranty in the end. They say they could find no fault(yeah right), but for some reason replaced the DVD and HDD. It's now working fine again, but for how long is anybodys guess. It doesn't seem to be the most stable piece of hardware HP have ever sold.
